Sanjay Purohit: M-learning has created a win-win situation for both the vendors (Teachers) and the consumers (Students). For consumers, learning has never been so easy and as for vendors, there were never so many business opportunities present in the field of education on just press of a button. The biggest thing M-learning has done to revolutionize education is to remove the variable of ‘physical boundary’ all together from the equation. Now a single teacher can connect with thousands of students spread throughout India at a single time, the same goes for students as well.

Q: Along with the mobile app, you now export the courses in all available portable forms such as pen drives and SD cards? Tell us the reason behind it.
SP: With the vision of making education accessible to every student in India, the challenge was to reach Tier-II and Tier –III cities where smartphone penetration is increasing but internet penetration in these cities is still in its initial phase. iProf thus introduced the devices like SD Cards and PenDrive which are easy to plug-n-play on Mobile and laptops/desktops respectively. The course content is preloaded on these devices and is shipped anywhere, making it easy for students even from the remotest area to study with the world-class content at his convenient time and place in offline mode. I.e. without internet connectivity.
Q: How does iProf stay up to date with its content? Tell us about your curation and updating process.
SP: iProf, being a content aggregator, sources its content from 200+ publishers in different formats, which makes it a technical challenge to convert & collate these into a stream of selected formats that are more suited to our delivery platform & are compatible with most user devices.
Content sanitation and compatibility for iProf Mobile Application has been the biggest challenge. You cannot use the same content, especially for Videos/Documents as is available for the Web on the App. Due to different form factors, support for codecs, aspect ratio and size of screen, it throws host of challenges to ensure users get the best experience on the mobile. At iProf, we believe in addressing these challenges and have developed some propriety tools and processes to transcode and transform the content from its original form to mobile ready format. As a result of this innovation, we are now able to give support for native rendering of questions/test, Videos and documents.

Q: What is the future of e Learning? Is india ready to convert to an all-digital model?
SP: Online education sector witnessed a lot of investments this year in India, with the entry of new players through acquisitions, partnerships & many other new initiatives. Additionally, new government policies are also shaping up to encourage e-learning. The increasing pace of digitization of books & educational institutes’ urge to adapt technology will further boost the progress. Taking in account the present condition of education throughout the country, the growing infrastructure and the change in people’s (coming from backward classes; mostly uneducated) attitude toward the importance of education, India is sure to see some major changes in the next year. Would India be able to convert to an all-digital model? Affirmative answer to this questions would seem a bit far-fetched at the moment, but the process of change has already begun and iProf is a major part of it and hopes to be the torchbearer of this revolution.
