Hyperlocal. A big tech keyword which forms the basis for many a services today – groceries, domestic maintenance, concierge and much more, is slowly becoming the rage in the e-commerce driven world. A hyper-local delivery service is one which provides home deliveries from local vendors such as kirana stores and marts, in under 2 hours. Busy urbanites love the convenience of ordering almost everything online and this sector has been witnessing plenty of activity lately. While most of the buzz has been around the everyday groceries box, Hyperlocal has expanded to providing effective service for mundane household work too!

1.Let’s get back to the basics first. Where did the idea for FindYahan come from?
It was early 2013 when I had just exited from my last startup and was literally thinking about what to do next! That’s the time the idea of a service marketplace came about. There was no curation of service providers being done where you could see providers and book them and thus FindYahan was born.
2.Do tell us about your curation and listing process. What criteria does a service have to meet? Do you list only agencies or individuals too?
We follow a very strict on boarding process. We have offline and online verifications and also a third party offline verification. Each category has different rules for onboarding, but the basis remains the same. For eg – when we are boarding a dietician we make sure he or she is a certified dietician and not a self proclaimed one, do their background and reference checks and then only on-board them. We list both agencies and individuals.
3.In today’s world of m-commerce and e-commerce, hyperlocal services are becoming key. What’s your opinion about this trend?
7 years ago, people got introduced to buying books online, then came movie tickets , then groceries and now services. Its the convenience that hyperlocal service market brings to the consumer. This industry is at the tip of the iceberg and is here to stay.
4.Did you have to do a sort of pilot program before development of the full scale website?
Yes, after doing extensive research on the market and need, we developed a MVP-Minimum Viable Product. Basically a website with basic design and features to test the market and get feedback. Once we got positive response from our users, we developed a full scale version. But in tech the product is never ready and we are still constantly improving our product.
5.What are the most looked up categories on FindYahan? Tell us about the range of services offered.
Currently we have over 250 services on offer on FindYahan. We have seen that a lot of categories are seasonal like tuition teachers, catering, event organisers etc, while some have a regular demand like domestic help services, repair and maintenance. Our highest category right now is domestic help followed by food.
6.Do tell us about your revenue model. Also what is the proportion of agencies to home entrepreneurs. Do you see many home entrepreneurs registering on the site?
We have a lead and transaction based model where we charge a percentage of the business generated to the service provider. In the last couple of months we have seen the number of home entrepreneurs increasing a lot and in fact in some categories almost 65-70% providers are home entrepreneurs.
7.What are the safety procedures in place?
We only on-board those service providers who are of high standards and meet our verification guidelines. We have reviews and rating and social connect also in place. You can view the reviews and ratings of a particular service provider. If a provider receives more negative rating, we block them from using the platform. Also once a user signs in from facebook they can see common connections between a provider and even see which friends have taken their services before for added security.
8.Are you going to expand to other cities? What does the future hold for FindYahan?
Yes we are expanding very aggressively. We are going live in 3 cities in the next 30 days. FindYahan is going to be the market leader in the service marketplace industry in India. We work with a single aim of on boarding the best service providers.
