SAS Nagar in Mohali was serious enough about its role in Swachh Bharat Abhiyan that it launched a Facebook page and is now considering launching a dedicated WhatsApp number to which residents can send messages and complaints about littering. This move, The Hindustan Times reports is expected to widen the reach of the campaign and involve more people in curbing littering and encouraging prompt action against it. Municipal Corporation commissioner, Uma Shankar Gupta said,
Most of the residents have smart phones now and we intend to tap the wide reach afforded by instant messaging service, WhatsApp, to increase public participation.”
The Municipal Corporation of SAS Nagar already has an app called MC CRAMAT – Municipal Corporation SAS Nagar Citizens Reporting and Mapping Tool which allows residents to lodge complaints regarding civic issues through an SMS service.
