Microsoft’s Affordable Access Initiative (AAI) invests in last-mile access technologies, cloud-based services and applications and business models which aim to reduce the cost of accessing Internet and bring more underserved people online. Under this initiative, reports ET Telecom, Microsoft has launched a fund to invest in companies working on solutions to bring this goal to fruition.
A Microsoft clarified that this investment includes about $75,000 in funding in addition to providing these companies with opportunities build connection with other similar recipients and potential funders. Peggy Johnson, Microsoft Executive VP (Business Development) said,
Today there are approximately four billion people globally without Internet access. The ability to close that gap is more achievable than ever with technology that is readily available and affordable in many parts of the world.”
