In a conversation with Ashok Reddy, Founder and CXO, we gain a little more insight into their latest app “Buzz Me” and also the technology that GrabOn operates on.
Ashok Reddy ( AR) : When I first saw the emergence of online shopping in India, I knew there was an opportunity to improve the online shopping experience for all buyers. And that’s how GrabOn was incepted under LandmarkIT Solutions, the parent company, “Inspire Labs” (a foundation laid down to strengthen all the potential startup ideas). GrabOn was introduced to online shoppers in September 2013.
GrabOn.in lets users find genuine , validated coupons and deals with a user friendly interface. It is the fastest growing coupons and deals website which also offers a monthly expense savings calculator, interactive charts and a talking mascot, giving useful saving suggestions to the users. We offer coupons and deals on a wide range of categories that include food, travel, electronics, recharge, fashion and furniture from a range of popular ecommerce merchants in the country. We have over 2500 merchants including leading companies like Uber, Patym, Flipkart, Amazon, Jabong, Snapdeal, Freecharge, Pepperfry and much more.
RS: Tell us about the team
AR: It started out as a small family then we added few hardworking professionals to make it a team of over 48 members. We have a strong vision with set goals and the team is extremely accommodating. We are now planning to expand this to a much bigger team with like minded people.
RS: Where did the idea of GrabOn originate from?
AR: GrabOn’s idea came to us as an opportunity to improve the online shopping experience for buyers. GrabOn was made possible at LandmarkIT’s “Inspire Labs” (a foundation laid down to strengthen all the potential startup ideas). Recently, we moved in our brand new quirky headquarters at Hitech city, Madhapur. Bringing in the Silicon Valley flavor, the brand new quirky office is equipped with sleeping pods, access to gym, showers and gaming for GrabOn employees. The place offers comfortable soft seating zone, scribble ideas on a wall and a lot of flexibility. We also have a Brainstorm Zone, Finance Zone, Turbo Zone, Executive Zone, Free Zone, Execution corner, GrabOn Timeline, Unwind Zone, Idea Zone, Giga Factory and amazing food at the cafeteria. The unique 12,000 Square foot Hyderabad facility will feature a space with distinctive architecture and progressive design elements.
RS: Tell us about your mobile app “Buzz Me”
AR: We started transforming the usability of coupon websites with our innovation in technology and design front. Currently, we are ahead of the competitive curve and want to give our users something that no other coupon website can give them. And that’s what pushed us to innovate a feature called “Buzz Me” – a unique feature that sends out real-time notifications to our users on their desktops/mobile screens whenever we add a new coupon on our site. Based on various user search patterns, this feature sends out pop-up alerts of latest coupons and deals.
RS: Tell us more about the real time coupon gathering technique?
AR: For the most part, we get our coupons directly from the merchants themselves before they’re posted anywhere else. When we deal with clients/start ups or even established companies for that matter, we directly deal with them with no middlemen, hence we are able to get all the exclusive and exciting coupons directly from the merchants. It makes it easier for us to provide exclusive and validated picks to our consumers, hence making it a really popular platform for consumers spend time on.
RS: What business model does GrabOn work on?
AR: GrabOn’s business module is such that the revenue comes from various different sources:

We will naturally continue to grow significantly in the online market and expand our reach to the overseas users too. Our aim is to be India’s most visited website.
