As a tribute to S. Swathi, the techie who was murdered at the Nungambakkam railway station last month, the Railway Protection Force (RPF) are launching a mobile app in her name for the safety of female passengers. The Hindu reports that Swathi’s last workplace, IT major Infosys has agreed to develop the app, that facilitates women to seek police assistance at the click of an ‘SOS’ button.
A brilliant feature of the app is that it will also be extended to non-smartphone users via SMS, and an RPF official said:
A special team of RPF personnel will be trained for effective monitoring and response. The app should be ready within two months.”
