GE Digital showcased a prototype smart overalls at its General Electric’s Minds + Machines conference. The suit is perfect display of connected devices or IoT gadgets. Technicians or electricians wearing these smart overall no longer need to worry about electrocution or even mild electrical shocks when repairing electrical boxes or wiring as the sensors embedded in the overalls will automatically cut off the electricity flow reports USA Today.
Gemeral Electric is more famous for its hardware devices like MRI machines and jet engines, but the company is also focusing on software and IoT devices in a big way. The smart overalls is a result of this new drive. The smart clothing’s sensors also perform the dual role of monitoring vitals which can help emergency responders and anticipate workers’ health problems. Stephane Sireau of GE Digital said,
This is just one way technology can help workers do their jobs better and more safely. Our mission is to integrate the worker into a digital industrial context.”
