Influential sci-fi author William Gibson is believed to have said, “The future is already here—it’s just not very evenly distributed.” In the world of connected devices and clothing he comes very close to the truth. Avery Dennison, the brand that manufactures care labels for clothing and also develops retail and information solutions for brands recently unveiled a smart bomber jacket called Bright BMBR in collaboration with fashion label Rochambeau and with EVRYTHNG, a London internet-of-things startup.
According to Quartz, the jacket has an NFC chip and personalized QR code which make the piece of clothing a virtual pass for events like fashion shows, tasting events, gallery tours, entry to clubs and much more. 15 limited Bright BMBR jackets will retail in December for $630. Trend-forecasting firm WGSN predicts that we are seeing a future where our clothing will be wearables. Connected stores like the ones owned by Rebecca Minkoff allow customers to see different versions or look of a particular garment via the RFID tags on it which pull up a product screen on the fitting room mirrors! The future of connected is truly here!
