According to officials, to push forward cashless transactions, the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) will soon launch an Android-based Aadhaar-enabled Payment System (AEPS) app. ET Telecom reports that the app is being developed in collaboration with Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), and will be available for download to merchants. However, they will need a smartphone and fingerprint scanner to use the same.
The new app will facilitate transactions sans a card or PIN. Moreover, it will be used by all banks, encouraging merchants in their vicinity to adopt it as well. The decision for the same was made by the Committee of Chief Ministers.
