Avalanches can come announced and with speed, giving you no time to escape them. However, a wearable system called ‘Resero XV’ aims to offer rescue when it seems like it’s too late. According to New Atlas, the tech uses pyrotechnics and blows snowboard binding straps off at the mere pull of a wearable trigger. This frees a rider, allowing her/him to rise to the top of the rushing snow.
Developed by Avalanche Float Solutions, the tech is aimed at helping snowboarders escape the danger of being buried by speeding snow. The Resero XV pairs a wireless transmitter, worn on the jacket or backpack, with a receiver/activator unit attached to the snowboard. So, if a rider is in danger of being overcome by an avalanche, s/he can pull the activation handle on the transmitter to automatically pop the bindings free, with the integrated pyrotechnic elements.
