WhatsApp recently announced that its Status feature has been revamped. The update, though available only in Europe when announced, is now live for all of the messenger’s users, on iOS, Android and Windows devices. NDTV reports that your WhatsApp status is no longer limited to just text. Instead, the app’s new update lets you post an image, GIF or short video as your status.
Launched in celebration of the messaging platform’s eighth birthday yesterday, the update also features end-to-end encryption. However, one of the most interesting aspects of the revamped feature is that your little status messages will vanish after 24 hours. According to WhatsApp Product Manager Randall Sarafa, the new WhatsApp Status combines three existing features – broadcast lists, media sharing, and Status. The upgraded feature is being compared to Snapchat’s Stories, and indeed, takes cues from the latter.
