Youth are the future of the local community, state, country and the global community. Motivating, inspiring, skilling and empowering them is the core of any development and future plan. Our own charismatic PM Narendra Modi spent considerable time and word count reaching out to them during every election campaign and continues to do so through initiatives like Make in India, Startup India and Skill India. The Imperial Society of Innovative Engineers (ISIE India) has the same focus except their goal is to provide a platform for youth to innovate and engineer green energy technology and solutions.
Vinod K Gupta founded ISIE in 2013 and started various events, programs, seminars and platforms to empower youth and give them a launchpad to showcase their skills and engage with industry experts. He believes youth and future eco-friendly innovations are synonymous. In this interview, he talks to us about the scope of ISIE, the various events he organises and what more needs to be done to take youth abilities and renewable energy solutions forward.
Networked India (NI): One of the core focus areas for ISIE is innovation in eco-friendly and renewable energy by empowering youth and connecting with industry partners. Tell us more about this initiative?
Vinod K Gupta (VG): As we all very well know, if we want to implement any new technique, it should be accepted by youth, and youth have enough potential to explore anything. As our core area is Solar Energy and Alternative power sources without pollution and emission, we have created various event like Electric-Solar Vehicle Championship (ESVC), Green Mobility based Skill Development, Go-Green and Hybrid Vehicle Challenge (HVC). So young minds can take an interest and contribute their efforts for the development of technology as well as positive message of solar energy and its application among society.
Now we are connected with 19 state’s engineering students, and for their guidance, we are connecting them to industries and government. People from various industries are helping young engineers and appreciating their work.
NI: Give us a brief background into the genesis of ISIE – Imperial Society of Innovative Engineers?
VG: I founded Imperial Society of Innovative Engineers (ISIE India) in 2013 during my engineering days. I understand the value of energy in the rural area and for farmers. During my engineering days, my team made a solar car. At that time I realised that we are not sharing this idea with others so that it can be easily developed and implemented. I discussed this with my friend also, and eventually came up with the ESVC – National level Solar Car design Challenge on my own. The idea was appreciated by many and colleges from 9 states participated. Later on, I started ISIE India to explore the skills of engineering students for technological advancement and innovation.
Now a days ISIE India is one of the favourite platforms among engineering students for green mobility and green energy-based research.
NI: What are the various forums, events and initiatives that ISIE organises or facilitates?
VG: A. Events include:
- Electric Solar Vehicle Championship-ESVC (Asia’s Biggest Solar Vehicle Design Challenge)
- Hybrid Vehicle Challenge (Student formula Hybrid/Electric)-HVC
- ISIE-India Karting Design (IKR)
- National Design and Innovation Challenge
B. Skill Development Program
- Solar, Hybrid, Sports Car, Driverless car, off Road Car Design and Manufacturing
- Solar Panel Design and manufacturing Program
- Battery Design and management
- Small Scale Product Design and manufacturing and many more programs which make youth independent and motivate startups.
C. Internship Program on more than 20+ programs.
D. Imperial International Journal (IIJ): We are motivating students and professor to do research on green technology under this platform – www.imperialjournal.com
E. Hamara Prayaas: An initiative towards poor and needy people last winter we distributed old clothes to 400 families who lives on the footpath or under fly over.
F: E-Magazine: The awareness and publication of articles related to green energy development. www.grevotech.imperialsociety.in
G: E-Commerce Platform: www.techimperial.in
We are growing every day because participating youth of India are supporting and contributing through their effort. All our initiatives are dedicated to only one aim – Green Energy development.
NI: Tell us a bit about the Skill Development Program ISIE organises in areas like Green Mobility, Mobile manufacturing, Robotic Arm, Home Automation and more. What are the aims and the target group?
VG: Our Skill Development program has the same aim as Skill India initiative. We are skilling people in various technologies and product design so they can easily get suitable people in industries or they can start their own enterprises. Our program is a witness of the same, that we are teaching people who can manufacture li-ion battery pack, charger, solar charge controller, solar panels and much more. (Below Vinod speaks about the Green Mobility Expo.)
NI: We recently wrote an article on a team of Jodhpur engineers who created a low-cost solar-powered car to participate in a competition organised by ISIE. How inspiring are achievements like these for aspiring student innovators?
VG: This is our motivation, all our innovation and technology comes from students. We are (ISIE India) just a platform, we are motivating and training engineers to develop such cars and have created various events so that their hard work can be showcased in front of government as well as industries for further enhancement. This year in HVC 70 Hybrid cars were developed and in ESVC (March 28 to 2nd April in AP) 100 + solar cars made by engineering students will take part in our event.
NI: How does ISIE aim to inspire more of such innovators and innovations among youth spread across the country?
VG: Every year we are coming up with lots of innovative activities that motivate and connect with youth. Our activities are based on skill development/ Research on green technology and all of us know this is going to be the future. These things have ample scope that motivates and inspires young engineers. Every year ISIE reaches and inspires more than 1 lakh youth every year.
NI: Our PM Modi is a huge proponent of Make in India and inspiring youth. ISIE’s goals and vision seem aligned with this. Comment on what more can be done for this cause.
VG: Our Prime Minister is an inspiration for all of us. He is always talking about being a Solar powered country, every youth should be skilled, Make In India, etc. All of this is possible when every individual Indian contributes and makes some effort. So, it’s always great we (ISIE India) are able to serve and contribute in some way to make our country solar powered and skill our Youth.
