Google’s Area 120 team has followed its Uptime app with two more platforms – ‘Google Family Link‘, which aims to give parents more control over their children’s Android device usage, and a chat app called ‘Supersonic Fun Voice Messenger‘. NDTV reports that the former is a parental control app that allows parents to manage what their kids download from Google Play, how much time they spend on apps, and also allows them to set a bedtime on their kids’ devices.
Available only in the US at present, Family Link also lets parents set up a Google account for their child on an Android device, and then lets them monitor all their browsing. Further, parents can approve or block apps, set daily screen time limits, and have their child’s device remotely locked when it’s time to study or sleep. The app would be invaluable if it came to India, since numerous kids here spend hours on their Android handsets.
