North Carolina city, Winston-Salem has a new app that uses crowdsourced information to provide real-time tracking for illnesses, tied to children’s school and grade. Winston-Salem Journal reports that aimed at decreasing the spread of such illnesses, the new ‘Sneez’ is the brainchild of Dr. Bill Satterwhite, a pediatrician and former lawyer, and Dr. Steve Hodges, a pediatric urologist.
Launched in November last year, Sneez is an iOS and Android app that provides illness outbreak alerts in particular schools in real time. Dr. Satterwhite said,
You can touch on the outbreaks map and you can see all the different schools, and what the level of reported illness is in those schools where people are participating.”
Further, the app’s reports are aggregated and location-based, not based on individuals. Dr. Hodges added,
Our goal is early prevention, preventing outbreaks, and saving money from missed days at school and missed days at work.”
