Ride-sharing company Lyft has made two little changes to its system, that are aimed at empowering drivers with hearing impairments. According to Engadget, now, instead of drivers only hearing a “ping” when they get a new ride, they will also get a visual notification in large text on the company’s new in-car display, Amp. It makes sense for the tech to do this since it already lights up, changes color, and can send light-hearted messages to riders. But that’s not all Lyft is doing for its hearing-impaired drivers.
The company has also started letting riders know when their driver is hard of hearing. So now, even before their pickup arrives, passengers will get a text message telling them to contact their driver via text instead of voice. In fact, riders will even be asked to let such drivers lead the communication when in the car, to further help the latter. It would be wonderful if tech like this came to Ola and Uber.
