Telecom service provider Bharti Airtel is already a household name. However, the company is now planning to enter the home automation or smart home segment with its Internet of Things (IoT) and machine-to-machine solutions. While the home automation sector in India is still at a very nascent stage, Bharti Airtel aims to enable customers to control elements such as lighting, heating, air conditioning, music and security systems through smartphones. Harmeen Mehta, group chief information officer at Bharti Airtel, told ET Telecom,
With house and cars getting connected, and everything getting automated… IoT will be the major data driver. In short run, probably apps are going to drive data as India is embracing more of the app world.”
A study by Zion Market Research suggests, the global smart home market is expected to grow at a CAGR of 14.5% between 2017 and 2022.
