Indian roads are about to get safer than ever before. This is thanks to a brilliant new anti-collision vehicle management system from HP Lubricants and Leo Burnett India. NDTV reports that the “first-of-its-kind” innovation will make use of ‘SmartLife’ poles to warn of approaching vehicles on both sides, with the help of a horn. Already, the ‘Roads That Honk’ system is gracing the NH1 road along the Jammu-Srinagar Highway. The route is infamous as one of the deadliest in the country.
The main devices that work the magic, the SmartLife poles are charged by solar PV modules, and feature an anti-collision warning system and radar system. Connected to each other, they have been erected on “key” hairpin bends. So, they detect the speeds of the vehicles, and then communicate with each other to warn others. They do this by transmitting electromagnetic waves, and then measuring the change in frequency of the reflected waves to determine speeds via a radar sensor.
