Leading smartphone brands Samsung and Apple have managed to retain their top spots in the market in Q1 2017. According to IDC, while these two companies grabbed the first and second spot in the smartphone market, Huawei came in at number three. The report said Samsung led the market in Q1 with a 22.8% share, while Apple recorded a 14.9% share. Both showed little growth. However, Huawei’s sales jumped 21.7% to give it a 9.8% share.
NDTV reports that the survey found that overall smartphone shipments grew 4.3% in the first quarter, a little better than its prior forecast, to 347 million units. Referring to last year’s worrying stats, IDC analyst Ryan Reith said,
There is no question that 2016 was a pivotal year for the industry as growth dipped to low single digits for the first time. However, we believe the industry will show some rebound in 2017, and the strong first quarter results certainly support this argument.”
